Name That Plant!

IMG_6214

It’s the last week of summer, so to speak, with Labor Day around the corner. Hope everyone’s had a blast. This is one of the plants I’ve been looking forward to eating the whole time, and it’s just about ready to harvest here. Know what it is? I won’t give up any clues, but the key to the answer is to try to name the specific variety. Guess away!

And I’m so pleased about the gift I’ll be giving away to the first reader who comments correctly. It’s a free ride to next week’s Asian Feastival, a one-day culinary fair with more than twenty of the city’s best (authentic) Asian restaurants participating, a slew of programs led by chefs like Baohaus‘s Eddie Huang, or writers and experts like Salon.com‘s Francis Lam, and even a bike tour. Listen to Joe DiStefano (who’s hosting an edible tour that day) and the event’s founder Wendy Chan on Let’s Eat In today as they hopefully reveal more on it. (Or call in to the station if you’ve got questions!) This is going to be one hot ticket, a value of $55, and it comes with a copy of New Asian Cuisine at the door. It’s next Monday, September 6th, by the way — last-minute plans for Labor Day, perhaps.

Liz got it! It’s moon and stars, named so for it’s speckled skin. Mentioned in that NYTimes article about personal melons last week too!

Yikes! Spam comment filter working in overdrive blocked all those comments before Liz’s, including other correct answers… sorry! T won the prize, actually. Be sure not to let this happen next Name That Plant!
